MOUNT PLEASANT, SC – Mount Pleasant Police Officer, Corporal Adam Willis, rescued a man from a burning car in the parking lot of Vickery’s on Shem Creek on May 30th at approximately 4:35 A.M.
Corporal Adam Willis responded to the parking lot of Vickery’s on Shem Creek and found a vehicle on fire. Corporal Willis used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire on the passenger side of the car, when he noticed a man sitting in the driver’s seat. He pulled the man from the car and pulled him away from the burning vehicle.
The police report says that another officer showed up to the scene of the vehicle fire to assist Corporal Willis and another officer. They confirmed that no one else was in the burning vehicle and made sure no one else was in the area. Mount Pleasant Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and worked on putting out the fire. The officers identified the man who was in the car as Trevor Duron-Belvin. The police report says that Duron-Belvin was extremely intoxicated and did not remember his vehicle being on fire or even being in the vehicle at the time of the fire. He was then transported to East Cooper Medical Center for care and the case is now considered closed.
Mount Pleasant Police Department says Corporal Willis’ quick actions saved the man from serious injury and possible death.
