A surgical nurse on her way to work was killed in a crash Monday morning near Gaffney.
The Cherokee County Coroner reports Mary Lynn Smith, 48, of Pauline was killed in the single vehicle accident on S.C. Highway 150.
The coroner says Smith was driving a 2003 Toyota 4 Runner north at 6:18 a.m. She cam out of a curve just before the intersection with Baker Road when she crossed the center line, ran off the left side of the highway and down an embankment.
The vehicle went airborne and overturned at least twice before stopping in a pasture.
Smith was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the 4 Runner.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner says she was an employee of Gaffney Medical Center.
An autopsy on Smith’s body has been scheduled for Tuesday.
