ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) – The mother of a girl injured in a 2014 crash is suing the driver and bars that served him alcohol the night of the wreck.
Media outlets report Nicole Queen filed the lawsuit Thursday in Anderson on behalf of her daughter, Cheyenne. The suit says several bars kept serving alcohol to Riley McDermott despite knowing he was drunk.
Authorities said McDermott was driving drunk and going 73 mph in a 35-mph zone when his pickup truck crossed the centerline and struck another car. The wreck killed 22-year-old Corey Austin Simmonds, 17-year-old Amber Hope Perkins and 20-year-old Jessica Ann Roberts.
Cheyenne was 11 at the time and was seriously hurt.
McDermott was sentenced to 18 years after pleading guilty in April to charges including felony driving under the influence involving death.
