A South Carolina community is still in shock, after police say a shooting killed a dad, injured his daughter’s mother and their 2-year-old girl.
Investigators were at the scene of Port Royal Apartments on Grober Hill Road all Friday morning, after the call came in around 5:30 a.m.
Port Royal Police and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report 29-year-old Antonio Brewer was shot and killed.
They say he was inside of a car, leaving his apartment when at least four shots were fired into the car — three of those through the windshield.
A family member of the victims says they were Brewer’s former girlfriend and their child, and are recovering from being shot as well.
Brewer’s wife, Terra Brewer was not involved in the shooting, her stepdaughter and stepdaughter’s mother were injured, Brewer said on Facebook.
Wife Terra Brewer was deeply saddened by the news.
“They took my heartbeat, my other half, my husband, away from me. I don’t how to handle the rest of my life without him,” she wrote on Facebook where the are several photos of Antonio Brewer.
“My heart, mind, body and soul hurt so bad. Please just pray for us all,” she added.
Working behind the caution tape, investigators searched for clues on Friday.
“Well, at about 6:15 this morning, I got a call, that I woke up, that my granddaughter had been shot,” T.L. Bunton says.
Bunton returned to the scene after visiting his granddaughter in the hospital. He says she was shot in the back, and her 2-year-old daughter was shot in the arm. He is thankful they are alive.
“I got dressed, I come on over and got to the hospital, she seemed to be doing okay but the baby is still in the hospital,” Bunton says.
He says it is unfortunate that Brewer, was killed in the shooting.
Investigators tell WSAV the three victims were inside their car leaving their apartment, when shots were fired at the car. This caused the car to crash into a fence on the edge of the parking lot.
On Friday afternoon, the car was towed. At least three shots were counted from the holes left in the car’s windshield.
“Well, when they called me it scared me to death. It scared me bad and had her get upset,” Bunton says.
Meanwhile, Bunton sends condolences to Brewer’s family.
“I wish the best for them, that the Lord be with them and help them through this. This is a heck of a situation,” he says.
Terra Brewer, who is from Myrtle Beach, said that telling the couple’s children about the incident will be difficult.
“Telling our 7 year old (that) daddy isn’t coming back, knowing my 2 year old stepdaughter won’t see her daddy again, knowing my 14 yr old stepdaughter will never have the chance to see her dad again (and that) nieces, nephews, siblings, and parents will never see him again, is heartbreaking,” she wrote on Facebook.
Terra Brewer has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the funeral expenses of her husband.
“I don’t know everything I’m supposed to as to burying someone, but I know its not cheap. Donating is going towards his funeral services that I will he planning,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page.
Investigators say they do not have a suspect at this time, or know of a motive for the shooting. They urge anyone with information to contact the Port Royal Police Department, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
