A South Carolina mother of two who was studying to become a nurse died along with her children in an early morning fire on Wednesday, officials said.
Mother 24-year-old Laterrious Watkins, her 2-year-old daughter Aubrey Mckie and her 1-year-old son Jacob Mckie all were killed in the blaze, according to the Edgefield County Coroner.
According to the coroner the autopsy revealed the victims died from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation.
The father of the children was in the house during the fire and was taken to a hospital.
The incident happened before 6 am at a mobile home on Country Club Road near Old Chappell Ferry Road in Edgefield County.
Initial reports indicate that the Watkins and her 2 children were trapped in the home after the fire broke out.
Watkins was studying at Aiken Technical College to become a Registered Nurse, according to her Facebook profile. She was a graduate of Strom Thurmond High School, her profile said.
A large portion of Country Club Road was blocked off to traffic for part of the day as crews investigated the fire.
