A man who was shot and killed by a police officer earlier this week outside of Atlanta served in the US Air Force and is from Moncks Corner.

Witnesses say 27-year-old Anthony Hill was unarmed yet acting erratic just before an officer fired his gun at him on Monday.

Hill graduated from Berkeley High School back in 2006, where he was a student athlete. His mother currently works at the school.

Hill also attended the University of South Carolina and was in the Air Force for 4 years before being medically discharged. It’s not clear when Hill moved to Atlanta.

Police in DeKalb County say Hill was naked when officers arrived following complaints of a suspicious man running through their apartment complex. At a press conference, police officials said Hill lunged toward an officer, the officer stepped back and ordered him to stop before shooting Hill twice.

Hill’s girlfriend, Bridget Anderson, says she had been planning to go to Hill’s place Monday evening to cook together and celebrate their 3-year anniversary.

Instead, the 22-year-old Anderson received a call that he had been shot dead by police.Police said no weapon was found at the scene and it appears Hill was unarmed.

Oscar Perez says he witnessed what happened, and explained what he saw through an interpreter.

“The man he was like drugged, but he was naked and he like, he was crawling and I think the police officer thought he was going to attack so he shot him.”

Hill’s family and friends gathered at their home in Moncks Corner Wednesday afternoon. A family member told WCBD-TV they are not interested in talking to the media at this time.

At this time the investigation into the shooting is being handled by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
