A Greenville County man is behind bars after authorities say he made threats and showed up at the Department of Social Services office with loaded a gun and a machete.
Deputies say he was upset because his son is in DSS custody and he wanted his child back.
For the past two months, Greenville County deputies say 37-year old Thomas Franklin made multiple threats of harming DSS staff to get his son back.
When Franklin arrived at DSS, Greenville county deputies were waiting for him and they arrested him before he even stepped foot in the building.
“That is just a great example of cooperation between DSS and law-enforcement we take these threats very seriously and the office did a very good Job contacting local law enforcement,” says Jackie Swindler, Law Enforcement Liason for DSS.
Deputies say, because Franklin did not have a Concealed Weapons Permit, he’s being charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
There are no charges for the threats right now.
He’s currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center.
