YORK, SC (AP) – A 34-year-old father has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the beating death of his son who had broken ribs and bruises from head to toe.
Bruce Williams had his lawyer read a letter in court saying he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and begged for forgiveness for not helping his 3-year-old son Miguel or calling 911.
The Herald of Rock Hill reports the boy’s mother, Lakeshia Jackson, is charged with homicide by child neglect and is awaiting trial.
Both the mother and father blamed the other for the boy’s death in April 2018. Williams told police the boy drowned in a motel bathtub, but prosecutors say an autopsy showed a pattern of abuse.
