KERSHAW, S.C. (AP) – A Lancaster County man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of his wheelchair-bound mother, whose decomposed body was found inside her home.

Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Barfield tells news outlets that deputies found the body of 57-year-old Carolyn Marie Taurino on Wednesday inside her Kershaw home while they were investigating a man who bank employees said had been suspiciously making inquiries into Taurino’s account.

Authorities say they determined that the man at the bank was Taurino’s son, 36-year-old Robert Allen Hypes, who also lived at the house. Hypes was arrested Thursday and charged with murder.

Barfield says an autopsy revealed Taurino died of multiple gunshot wounds. Barfield says she appeared to have been dead “for some time.”

It is unclear whether Hypes has an attorney.
