GREENVILLE, SC – Greenville Health System announced Tuesday that it will be eliminating over 400 positions as part of cost-cutting plans.

GHS COO Greg Rusnak says more than half of the 410 positions being eliminated will be through not filling vacancies and possibly through voluntary exit incentive programs.

Rusnak says that these are positions and not necessarily employees being reduced and that the number could increase or decrease based on financial performance and other cost-reduction efforts.

Investments and lower patient volumes have contributed to GHS’s current financial situation. The company has posted $16 million in losses since October.

GHS currently employs 15,000 people system-wide.
