NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – A North Augusta family is going after a Grinch that destroyed their Christmas inflatable.
Like most families, the Fountain family decks the halls every year and they were shocked to find that the decorations they put up were vandalized.
However, they aren’t letting someone with a heart three times too small break their Christmas spirit.
In surveillance video obtained by WJBF NewsChannel 6 you see a black truck pull up in front of a house, shortly after midnight.
Moments later one person jumps out of the truck, runs towards the inflatable in the front yard and slashes the decoration to the ground.
Then a second person jumps out of the vehicle and does the same thing.
When the inflatable doesn’t collapse the second person runs back and slashes the inflatable again.
The footage has homeowner Stephanie Fountain saying she’s not letting it go.
“When someone hurts your kids feelings it kind of hits home for you,” Fountain told WJBF NewsChannel 6.
The suspects in the video damaged more than $200 dollars of the Fountain’s property.
However they say it’s not about the money, it’s about what Olaf and Hank meant to their son Skye.
“He found a lot of joy out of it,” Fountain said. “His thing was every single night before we would put him to bed, he would ask us to come out here and [he would] just give Olaf and Hank a hug and a kiss and say goodnight.”
Still Fountain says Christmas doesn’t come from a store, even her 3-year-old knows Christmas means a little bit more.
“He’s very much into holidays, so he knows. He goes to First Baptist of North Augusta so he knows the real reason. It was just a fun thing for him,” said Fountain.
Vandalism is a misdemeanor offense.
The suspects could be fined more than $2,000 dollars or go to jail for 30 days.
