SC high school student drowned, may have had leg cramps says coroner

SPARTANBURG, SC – The Spartanburg County Coroner says 16-year-old Markell Tyquann Nesbitt died from an accidental fresh water drowning.

The coroner’s ruling also states that Nesbitt had experienced recent episodes of leg cramps which may have led to the drowning.

Nesbitt, a Byrnes High School student and football player died while swimming with friends at Lake Lyman in July.

Sheriff Chuck Wright says the teens were at a private home, hanging out on a dock, and then went for a swim.
