SC high school student dead after complaints of chest pain

OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. – A student at West Oak High School died Thursday after suffering from cardiac arrest, according to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.

Sierra Jaid Sims, 18, of Westminster was taken by EMS to the hospital after collapsing while entering a classroom.

Officials state that when the emergency responders arrived to the scene, Sims was conscious and showed signs of respiratory distress, while also complaining of chest pain.

Sims arrived at the hospital around 1 p.m. where she suffered cardiac arrest shortly after.

A report states that even after attempting “aggressive medical treatment”, she was pronounced dead at 1:52 p.m.

There was no recent trauma that could have associated with the death, and an autopsy will be performed soon to find answers in her untimely passing.
