COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina’s Department of Motor Vehicles is starting to issue new license plates that do away with its sunrise and Palmetto tree.
The State reports that a standard white background will be used on plates issued over the next six years. Agency director Kevin Shwedo says new plates will have black numbers and letters with “South Carolina” written across the bottom.
Distinctive accent colors used on extra-fee special plates, such as garnet for the University of South Carolina, won’t be available. The new tags will have an emblem that’s in color to the left of the plate’s identification numbers and letters.
Special plates will carry the name of the organization or cause along the top line. Plates being issued to state lawmakers this year have the new look.
