FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A Marion County Detention Center Correctional Officer is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division after he reportedly tased a man restrained to a hospital bed.
According to an arrest warrant issued by SLED, Frank Anthony Gibbons is charged with misconduct in office and assault and battery third degree. The victim was taken to Carolinas Hospital System from the Marion County Detention Center for medical care on June 5 between 2:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
The warrant details how Gibbons, while working as a correctional officer, assaulted the victim by “unlawfully tasing him while [the victim’s] hands and feet were restrained to the bedrails on the hospital bed.”
A SLED agent talked to witnesses, who are willing to testify to seeing Gibbons illegally use a taser on the victim, the warrant states.
Gibbons was booked into the Florence County Detention Center Thursday at 10:35 a.m., according to online booking records.
