About 30 residents evacuated after a train derailment in Edgefield County are now able to return home.

A Civil Emergency Message was activated Friday night.

Residents living a mile and a half radius around Salters Pond Road at Highway 121 intersection , which is north Trenton, S.C., were asked to evacuate immediately.

The train derailment happened around 8:40 pm near Salters Pond Road off Highway 121. A Hazmat team is at the scene of the crash, which is a Norfolk Southern train, WFXG-TV reported

Several train cars were involved and there was an unknown substance leaking from the train. 

There is no word on what the substance is or if anyone was hurt.

RESIDENTS LIVING ONE AND ONE-HALF MILES AROUND SALTERS POND ROAD AT HIGHWAY 121 INTERSECTION IN TRENTON SOUTH CAROLINA ARE ASKED TO EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY TO MOUNT CANNON CHURCH ON HIGHWAY 25 IN EDGEFIELD COUNTY DUE TO A TRAIN DERAILMENT.
