CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Berkeley County School District bus driver charged with sexual misconduct with a minor is facing additional charges, according to the Charleston Police Department.
Kevin Michael Wesley Jr., 30, of Charleston, is now charged with first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and criminal solicitation of a minor. He was served at the Charleston County Detention Center on Monday, December 12, where he’s being held on a $470,000 bond.
Wesley Jr. was already charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and criminal sexual conduct with a minor, third degree.
According to police spokesman Charles Francis, Wesley met the teenager while he was a driver on her bus route. The following year when she was no longer on his route, between September 2015 and December 2015, he continued to keep in contact with her. After several months of correspondence via text and phone, Wesly persuaded the victim to sneak out of her home to meet him, according to an affidavit. We’re told he took the victim his West Ashley apartment where he convinced her to have sex with him by telling her he would “be gentle,” the affidavit added. She eventually told her mother about the relationship.
Wesley was a bus driver for seven years. He was removed from his position on Wednesday, September 29.
We checked into Wesley’s criminal history and found no past criminal charges.
The victim gave birth to his child on September 17.
