COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The Senate Ethics Committee has publicly reprimanded the chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus and fined him $6,000.
A report released Tuesday accused Democratic Rep. Carl Anderson of Georgetown of filing a false campaign disclosure form, failing to report contributions and accepting anonymous cash donations during a special Senate election last fall.
Former Rep. Ronnie Sabb won the seat vacated when Yancey McGill left the Senate to become lieutenant governor.
The report says a review of Anderson’s campaign account found no inappropriate use of campaign funds, but rather unreported donations and expenses.
Anderson says his initial filings contained errors that he corrected. He says he didn’t know who gave him cash at a fundraiser, but all of it was deposited.
He must pay that $715 to the Children’s Trust Fund.
