SC babysitter accused of killing infant girl out on bond

SPARTANBURG, S.C – Katie Wheeler Harris was released from the Spartanburg Detention Center Tuesday morning on a $50,000 bond.

Harris was a babysitter who deputies say was watching a 3-month-old when she suffered injuries that led to her death.
Harris’s charges were upgraded and now she faces Homicide by Child Abuse.

Investigators say they were called to the hospital in March after the baby, Everly Dickard, was brought in with injuries, including bilateral subdural homatomas and retinal hemorrhages.

Dickard later passed away as a result of the injuries.

During the investigation, officials say Harris admitted that she originally lied about how the baby was injured.

After the findings of the investigation were presented to a judge Wednesday, the upgraded warrant was issued and Harris turned herself in.
