An ordinance to sell land and property currently occupied by Horry County Fire Rescue Station 23 will advance to a final reading.

Horry County Council approved second reading of the ordinance Tuesday evening, according to Horry County Councilman Johnny Vaught. The agreement would authorize the county administrator to sell the 2.62 acres of real property along Victory Lane.

The request would help Horry-Georgetown Technical College grow its Conway campus, according to county officials.

According to a decision paper, multiple appraisals valued the land and property at $350,000. However, Horry County leaders say the cost of property acquisition and construction of a new fire station will substantially exceed that amount.

The proposed agreement would give Horry County three years to relocate and rebuild Station 23. Leaders continue to look for land along SC-544 and Singleton Ridge Road for the project.
