DILLON, S.C. (WBTW) – There was very little space to move around Saturday afternoon as people from across the Pee Dee and out of state begin their last minute shopping for their fourth of July celebration.
Many last minute shoppers were on the search for what was left.
” It’s kind of our normal every year, we get about a couple hundred dollars worth,” said Jim Burns after shopping with his two sons.
“As long as their big and go BOOM and loud and colorful, yea that’s us,” mentioned Jessica Campbell as she begin shopping with her family.
Cody Tompkins has been working at Jabbs Fireworks for over four years and he says this is the busiest he’s ever seen.
“I mean we couldn’t move in here for about 8 hours yesterday. I stood at one of our registers from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” says Tompkins.
But what’s most important when lighting fireworks is staying safe.
Tompkins says if the fireworks goes off and stops halfway through, don’t relight it, don’t mess with it, dap it with water and leave it to the side.
Something that one dad has down packed.
“Whenever we do fireworks we make sure that the kids don’t light any that aren’t appropriate for them and we always make sure that we have some water out and always have a parent, no one goes outside without a parent watching them to make sure their safe,” Burns added.
Tompkins says if you’re a last minute shopper then you should expect all the good stuff to be gone.
“They think oh I can get in there and get out, but no that’s not how it happens in here. If you come late you’re not going to get what you want,” says Tompkins.
Jabbs will be closing at 11 p.m. Saturday and the owner says the doors will be locked and the lights turned off.
