MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Charlie Hyman of Simpsonville, SC, is currently a finalist in a national contest for prom outfits created with duct tape. Hyman told News13 NOW anchor Brandon Herring about the contest via facetime. He still needs votes from the public to wine the overall prize of a $10,000 college scholarship.
Hyman recently graduated from Mauldin High School and The Fine Arts Center. He will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall. Earlier this year he entered Duck Brand’s “Stuck at Prom” contest, which required entrants to create prom dresses or tuxedos out of duct tape.
Hyman’s black and gold design earned him a spot as one of five male finalists, but he will need the most online votes to win. Hyman said all of his hard work will be worth it if he can win the scholarship. He said he has no experience making clothes. So the project was brand new to him.
