DARLINGTON (AP) – South Carolina lawmakers have voted to designate “Darlington Raceway Week” for the days leading up to the Southern 500.
The state Senate and House of Representatives passed a concurrent resolution that names Aug. 29-Sept. 4, 2016 as “Darlington Raceway Week, a Week Too Tough To Tame.”
The resolution, led by state Sen. Gerald Malloy, D-Hartsville, outlines the historical significance of the raceway’s throwback weekend and addresses the role the track plays in building the foundation of NASCAR racing.
The Southern 500 will be run Sept. 4 at Darlington.
