LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – On Thursday investigators with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office say they arrested a 22-year-old man in connection to a homicide case.

Edward Autry Wright of Lumberton was arrested around 2 p.m. Thursday and charged with first degree murder, first degree burglary and first degree arson.  Wright is being held on those charges without bond.

Over the course of the investigation, Wright was also charged with assault on a law enforcement officer for biting an officer while another officer was attempting to fingerprint him. The bond on that charge is $75,000.

According to Major Anthony Thompson, deputies responded to the home of off duty Lieutenant Joey Hucks around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The release says an 18-year-old  woman knocked on the lieutenant’s door and was covered in blood and had lacerations on her body. The woman said her house on Buckshot Road was on fire and she was transported by EMS to Southeastern Health Center where she later died.

The victim was identified Thursday evening as Marcy Blanks of Buckshot Road in Lumberton. Officials have not yet released the cause of death.

Thompson says the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
