LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – Officials with the Public Schools of Robeson County announced Friday that there will be a two-hour delay Monday, Oct. 31.
Tasha Oxendine with the Public Schools of Robeson County says staff will report at the normal time and school staff members will be calling parents Friday to alert them of possible turnarounds or detours regarding closed or damaged roads in the school district.
Monday will be the first day Robeson County schools will be open since Hurricane Matthew.
West Lumberton Elementary, which was under several feet of water for more than a week, will open at a different site. West Lumberton Elementary will begin Monday on the Lumberton Junior High Campus in the 300 Wing. Parents from West Lumberton will receive direction from Principal Tara Bullard as to drop-offs, pick-ups and transportation for students.
W.H. Knuckles Elementary will open on schedule Monday as well. There will be no students in the Kindergarten or 1st grade wing. Those students will be housed in the main building. Lunches will be transported into the school since the cafeteria suffered damage.
The school district central office staff has been relocated to Comtech Technology Park and to UNC Pembroke offices after the school district’s central office, maintenance and child nutrition offices were flooded by the storm.
