LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – Robeson County School Board Superintendent Thomas Lowry met with school board members Thursday afternoon days after Hurricane Matthew .
At this point Robeson County School Board Public Information Officer Tasha Oxendine says 13 schools are still without power and that does not include their transportation and computer services department and their resource center to.
Two schools are still under water so county officials say they will have to wait until the water recedes for crews to assess the damage.
Oxendine says the school board is in the early stages of where to go from here.
Superintendent Lowry says though many things are not in their control the board is doing everything they can to get things back to normalcy.
Statement from Robeson County Superintendent Thomas Lowry:
Today we met with our cabinet, directors and supervisors from the different departments across the district to evaluate where we are. We will assemble again next week to develop a plan on how we will get the school district back up and running. A lot of things are not within our control. Because we have people in shelters, we cannot open the schools. We are doing everything we can to expedite the process to get schools open. We are working with the various agencies. Everyone has parts and we must all work together to do what we need to do for our students and families.”
