A Pickens County couple have been charged after deputies say they neglected two young children and a bedridden adult.
The sheriff’s office says Jeremy Ray Holder and wife Erin Nicole Holder, both age 23, who live on Massingill Memorial Drive just outside Pickens, face charges of unlawful neglect of a child and neglect of a vulnerable adult.
In the house, officials said in a warrant that — among other issues — children’s feet had animal feces on them and a bedridden adult had roaches crawling around their bed.
Officials stated in a news release that deputies were called to the home by the Department of Social Services last Monday.
When they got there, they say they found inhumane conditions and removed the children and the bedridden adult. The children were under the age of 5, WYFF-TV reported.
According to warrants, the children’s feet were “crusted over with dirt and animal feces.” WYFF-TV reported that the bedridden adult was an elderly woman.
The vulnerable adult was confined to a hospital bed where roaches were seen crawling around and on the woman, WYFF-TV reported.
The sheets were also soiled with bodily fluids, according to the arrest warrants.
Garbage, molded food, animal feces and roaches were also found in almost every room of the home, the warrant added.
The elderly woman and children were removed from the house and placed with other family members.
