Ripley’s is making it easier for families with children with autism to visit the aquarium.

Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach has teamed up with Champion Autism Network to host sensory friendly visits for those families. The aquarium aims to reduce sensory stimulation for children with autism by turning down the sound, and adjusting the lighting inside. Ripley’s also reduces its ticket prices to $7 per person for families attending the sensory friendly visit. “It’s really critical to create an environment where they feel welcome, just no judgment,” said Jason Toy, Director of Programs for Champion Autism Network. “Also it really addresses the sensory issues because a lot of the kids, loud sounds, bright lights, it really disturbs them.”

Ripley’s and Champion Autism Network hold a sensory friendly visit at the aquarium at least one Saturday every month, from 9 to 11 A.M. The next one is February 17th
