MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- For local first responders, this Independence Day brought multiple rescues due to strong rip currents.
Local ocean rescue crews have made at least eight rescues in Myrtle Beach alone. Other beaches including Surfside and Carolina Beach have also reported multiple incidents.
According to the US Life Saving Association, rip currents account for over 80% of rescues performed by beach lifeguards. If you’re ever stuck in a rip current, experts say to remain calm and swim parallel to the shore.
