FLORENCE, SC – Today, Richard Skipper announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination to be the S.C. Senator for District 31. His announcement was made at an event with friends, family, and associates in Florence.
In his announcement, Skipper stated: “I am running because it’s time that we restore the principles of good government. Principles based upon our Judeo-Christian founding. It’s time to take a 21st century approach to education and economic development: one that focuses more attention on the support and expansion of local small businesses. It’s time the taxpayers of our state receive efficient, responsible stewardship of their tax dollars in every agency and department. It’s time that parents have more choices in the education of their children. It’s time to end the out-of-control costs of a college education that’s crippling our students with thousands of dollars of debt. It’s time that we establish term limits. Public service is not an occupation where one goes to spend decades gaining power.”
Florence Senator Hugh Leatherman has held this seat for 35 years. Leatherman has run un-opposed since 2004.
Richard Skipper served in the South Carolina Army National Guard and has owned and operated a local insurance agency for 25 years in Florence. He and his wife, Kim, live in Florence. He attends Cornerstone Baptist Church. Skipper currently serves as Chairman of the Florence County Republican Party.
