More changes could be coming to an area where crews already do extensive road construction.
A rezoning request was recently submitted for an area on the south side of Big Block Road, at the Highway 707 intersection, near Socastee.
The request says the land could be used for commercial and residential, if the plan gets approved it would mean turning 169 acres of forest land into new homes and businesses.
Todd Anderson lives off Big Block Road, he noticed the land across the street for sale last month, and says “then a few days ago we got a letter from horry county planning commission.”
The letter informed home owners of a public hearing on rezoning the land between 707 and Big Block Road..
According to Horry County Spokesperson Lisa Bourcier, “currently that land is a CFA commercial forest agriculture, they want to rezone that to a residential commercial mix, it appears that the plans they submitted would be commercial in the frontage of 707 and then residencies behind that as a residential development.”
There is already a lot of construction in the area from the widening of 707, and added congestion does give Anderson some concern.
“Mostly about traffic patterns. We’ve got two stop lights so that should elevate the problems but we won’t see how it is until it gets put in the ground,” says Anderson.
The proposal first has to get approval from the Horry County planning commission and then move forward to the infrastructure and regulation committee before it can be heard by county council.
You can voice your opinion on the plan at the public input meeting on Thursday, May 7th at 5:30 at the Horry County Government and Justice Center in Conway.
