MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Rescue crews were at Myrtle Beach State Park Friday responding to a call about a swimmer in distress.

The search was suspended Friday afternoon after crews could find no evidence of a distressed swimmer, according to Lt. Jonathan Evans with Myrtle Beach Fire.  Officials also say they have received no calls about missing people in the area.

Lt. Evans initially said the distressed swimmer could have been a kite surfer, but neither the swimmer nor the kite board was ever located.

First responders emphasize that though they didn’t find anything, they used every means they had to look for the reported swimmer.

Lifeguards, Downwind Sails Watersports, and a banner plane were searching the area, in addition to crews with Myrtle Beach Fire according to Lt. Evans.
