Report: Suspect robs man at gun point for money, suspect’s roommate returns money to victim

A Myrtle Beach man reportedly robbed another man at gunpoint for money and his roommate returned the money to the victim, a police report says.

According to a police report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Javed Aaquid Thompson, 23, was arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers responded to the area of 205 S. Myrtle Street in reference to a weapon discharge around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to the report. Upon arriving, officers met with the victim, a 33-year-old man, and another person, a 28-year-old man, involved in the incident.

The victim did not speak English, so the 28-year-old man translated, and the victim stated he was robbed near 605 Collins Street, the report says. The victim also reportedly stated he had walked over to this location to meet up with another person, a 28-year-old woman who he had been roommates with in the past, to ask if she wanted to walk to the store with him. Upon arriving, the victim said the suspect was sitting outside on the porch and that he told the suspect he was there to find the woman.

The suspect allegedly told the victim to give him all of his money and then pointed a small black handgun at the victim, demanding the money, according to the report. The victim handed the suspect $30 in cash and the suspect reportedly punched the victim in the face. The victim then said he ran back to his house, where he said he told the 28-year-old man what happened. The 28-year-old man then called police to report the incident and stated he thought the suspect could have fired two shots into the air. The report says “no one saw this happen and no shell casings were located.”

The responding officers then went to 605 Collins street “in an effort to find the offender,” the report also says. Upon arrival, responding officers found the 28-year-old woman and cleared the house. The suspect was not located in the house. The 28-year-old man drove his vehicle to the officers’ location and reportedly stated the suspect was running in the area. Officers set up a perimeter, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The 28-year-old woman told police that the suspect is her roommate and that he is rarely home, says the report. The woman said when she heard what happened to the victim, she confronted the suspect and the suspect admitted to her that he had robbed and punched the victim in the face. The suspect reportedly said it was in self defense because he did not know who the victim was. The woman said she asked the suspect to give her the money so she could return the money to the victim. The woman also stated the suspect gave her the money and she walked over to the victim and returned the money.
