MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach man is in jail for domestic and sex crime charges after reportedly breaking into a woman’s home and raping her while holding a gun to her head.

An Horry County police report details how 22-year-old Broderick Carpenter sent numerous text messages to a woman the night of Feb. 10 asking to see her and if he could come to her Myrtle Beach home. The victim repeatedly refused Carpenter’s advances, according to the report.

Carpenter then asked the victim if he could come to her home to retrieve an item from her car that he left behind. The victim told police that she walked outside to unlock her car before Carpenter arrived to allow him to get his belongings. When the victim went back into her home, Carpenter was waiting for her in the master bedroom.

Carpenter grabbed the victim by the neck, placing her in a choke hold and used his free hand to remove her clothing and force himself on her. The victim told police that Carpenter held a gun to her head while he raped her, threatening to kill her if she told anyone.

The victim begged for Carpenter to leave, the police report states, and once the accused rapist was gone, the victim drove herself to the hospital and police were called.

Carpenter is charged with criminal sexual conduct first degree, burglary, domestic violence high and aggravated nature, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was booked into J. Reuben Thursday at 3:09 p.m. and at the time of this posting, no bail has been set.
