FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Darlington County deputies arrested a Florence man after he reportedly shot at his wife during an argument, barricaded himself inside his home and fought with deputies Sunday night.

Sheriff Wayne Byrd says the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Mariposa Drive in Florence in reference to a domestic violence and shooting call Sunday. The suspect, David Craig Shipman, 51, of Florence, shot at his wife during an altercation, and told his wife that if anyone came to the home he would shoot them and threatened to harm himself, adds Sheriff Byrd.

Once deputies arrived on scene, Shipman holed up in the house and would not come out or responded to deputies. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team was called to the location, Sheriff Byrd confirms. Once agents entered the house, Shipman was taken into custody after a short fight with deputies. Several guns were located throughout the home, adds Sheriff Byrd.

Shipman is charged with domestic violence high and aggravated, kidnapping, pointing and presenting a firearm, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and resisting arrest.

Shipman’s victim was not hurt during the shooting.
