The remains of missing teenager Erica Parsons has been found five years after her disappearance.

Rowan County detectives and special agents with the FBI and SBI found the skeletal remains of a girl who has now been identified as Parsons on Tuesday.

Officials told CBS affiliate WBTV that the remains were found in the Pageland Mount Croghan area of Chesterfield County.

Investigators have not released any information on how she died.

Parsons was reported missing in July 2013 but the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says she had been missing since late 2011.

During the investigations, Erica’s adopted parents were charged with Federal fraud charges related to her disappearance and were later sentenced to prison where they are still held.

Erica’s brother told investigators that his parents told him that Erica had gone to Asheville to live with her grandmother, according to WBTV.

A press conference is scheduled for next week to discuss the case.
