Religious leaders plan prayers before Bikefest

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Religious leaders on the Grand Strand plan events to pray for the safety of those attending the Atlantic Beach Bikefest this month.

The Sun News reported a group of pastors plans 60 hours of prayer on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach beginning May 21.

Volunteers from local churches plan to work four-hour shifts to welcome and pray with people in town for the events beginning Memorial Day weekend.

The Rev. Joe Washington says there cannot be too much prayer.

Last year’s motorcycle festival was deadly. Three people were shot to death in Myrtle Beach. Seven others were hurt in other shootings.

Police plan to use a one-way traffic loop late at night in an attempt to reduce problems during the festival.
