Red Cross holds blood drive in Florence to help address urgent need after Matthew

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW)- On Thursday, The American Red Cross held a blood drive at the Central United Methodist Church on West Cheves Street.

The Red Cross says it has an urgent need for blood donations right now because Hurricane Matthew forced the organization to cancel more than 100 blood drives across the southeast.

Organizers say their goal was to collect 46 pints of blood. By the end of the day, the drive had surpassed that goal and collected 52 pints of blood, saving the lives of 156 people.
