CHARLESTON, SC – A rare leatherback sea turtle is being treated at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston after being rescued from a remote Georgetown County island over the weekend.
Saturday night the aquarium’s sea turtle hospital admitted the first ever leatherback sea turtle patient. This is the largest species of sea turtle, weighing more than 400+ pounds and is super rare.
It took five workers to lift the turtle from the beach and bring it to the aquarium’s Sea Turtle Hospital from South Island.
