ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WBTW) -On Thursday, animal cruelty investigators discovered a puppy mill in Robeson County and removed 21 animals from the property.
A release from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office says officers were tipped off Monday when an individual purchased a puppy and the dog passed out when the new owner took it home. The puppy was taken to the vet, where it was diagnosed with a ruptured spleen and a lacerated liver. The release says they were able to save the animal’s life but the bill amounted to $3,500.
Thursday, investigators went out to the property the puppy came from and found animals living in deplorable conditions. The release says an impoundment order was issued and 21 animals were taken to veterinarians for treatment.
The investigation is ongoing and the animals are not yet available for adoption or in need of foster care.
Charges are pending at this time, officials say.
