FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) – A federal prison officer has been sentenced in South Carolina for taking bribes from inmates.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said in a news release Monday that Charlotte McLaughlin has been sentenced to 13 months in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Bryan Harwell also sentenced her to three years of supervised release.
Nettles says McLaughlin was an officer at the federal prison in Bennettsville.
In 2012 and 2013, prosecutors say she took bribes from inmates and their associates in exchange for contraband items, including tobacco and cell phones.
