SIX MILE, S.C. (AP) – Pickens County authorities say a 24-year-old pregnant woman and her baby died days after a bicyclist struck her.
Coroner Kandy Kelley says Rose Higgins was pronounced dead at a hospital Tuesday afternoon. She was 26 weeks pregnant when a bicyclist hit her head-on about 10 p.m. Friday.
Kelley says Higgins’ daughter was delivered by C-section Saturday and died Monday.
Local media outlets report Higgins was walking with her fiance to her grandmother’s home in Six Mile when she was struck.
Her fiance, 27-year-old Joshua McSwain, tells WYFF that Higgins hit her head on the asphalt.
Authorities call the collision an accident and don’t expect to file charges.
There will be a prayer vigil tomorrow from 7-8 p.m. in Legacy Square in Pickens for the little girl and her mother.
