COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Potential Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is the featured speaker at a tax day rally at the Statehouse.

The retired neurosurgeon is advocating for a balanced budget amendment. Carson is among possible GOP presidential contenders who are calling on states to approve resolutions petitioning Congress to call a convention, with the goal of forcing the federal government to balance its budget.

South Carolina is home to the nation’s first presidential primary in the South.

The rally Wednesday is sponsored by I Am American.org, Tea Party Express, South Carolina Fair Tax and the Balanced Budget Amendment Task Force.

Other planned speakers include state GOP Sen. Larry Grooms of and GOP Rep. Peter McCoy, both of Charleston.
