A local filmmaker shows her work at festivals all over the country.  Azure Allen is turning heads despite being just a junior in high school.

“I was very little probably like five or six,” Allen said of her first thought of making her own movies. “I remember seeing this video of someone basically back stage doing stop frame (animation). I was like wow, I didn’t know there were actually people doing this, I just thought it was little characters that moved.”

An ah-ha moment for the very young girl that this could be something she could enjoy for a very long time.

“When I see something coming together, that’s probably the best part,” Allen said of making a film.

The process from start to finish is distinctly thought through. Spend just a few moments talking with Azure and you’ll find this high school junior is very skilled with her passion.

“I’ve been drawing ever since I was very little,” Allen said.

That artwork now features prominently in many of her films.

Layer upon layer, frame by frame.

Pursuing perfection, one small step at a time.

If you’d like to see more of Azure’s work you’ll find one of her films as a part of the permanent collection of the Chapin Art Museum.
