The owner of Mara Ray Wig Boutique is making sure every women feels confident in her own skin.

“In my heart, I really wanted to be able to provide women a place to go where they felt comfortable and they could trust in the owners or trust in the store, to make them feel whole again,” said the owner, Mara Caldwell.

Mara, battled depression after receiving a depo-provera shot, 19 years ago. This made her lose all her hair and eyebrows in just a few weeks.

“I struggled when I went into some stores to try on hair, because they literally had you in the middle of a beauty supply store and everyone was shopping. If you weren’t comfortable of taking out your hair, you truly felt naked,” said Caldwell.

She embraced her hair loss and started helping others going through the same situation.

Mara opened up a new store in the Pee-Dee and started a global foundation about four years ago.

“We provide wig and wig care to children up to the age of 24. They get them for free due to donations or outings we do,” said Caldwell.

Mara tries to give a personal touch by delivering the wigs herself.

“It’s really exciting to actually see them smile and to feel wonderful again,” said Caldwell.

Mara Ray Wig Boutique opened their doors on July 13.
