SUFFOLK, Va. – A portable toilet company is offering a reward to find out who set some of their toilets on fire.

Police say at about 1:39 a.m. Sunday, a Suffolk police officer was on patrol in the downtown area when a person in a vehicle stopped to let him know that there was a fire involving several portable toilets in the 100 block of N. Main Street, in front of the SunTrust Bank building.

Fire crews responded to find two of the porta-potties fully engulfed. A third was damaged.  Officials say the fire also damaged two SunTrust Bank windows, a structural column and a city bench.

According to company manager Tavis Meredith, two of their porta-potties were destroyed and the third is unusable. He said it’s about $4,000 in damage. Meredith said he received a call from Suffolk Police around 3 a.m. letting him know what had happened.

The toilets are pink, in support of the Susan G. Komen Tidewater chapter. They were on site for the Taste of Suffolk event, which took place Saturday.

The company says the fires were deliberately set and is offering a $2500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) involved.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
