HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Police have seized more than two dozen dogs from a home in Horry County during an animal abuse investigation.
The dogs were taken from a home off of Cane Branch Road near the Loris area on Wednesday morning, according to Horry County police.
Two people are in custody, police said. Their identities have not been released at this time.
One neighbor says this isn’t the first time she’s seen this in her neighborhood.
“This has been ongoing for two years, from the very first day that they moved in,” said Tracy Paquin. “We had issues and it’s been ongoing ever since. I’ve had people stop here and ask me questions about my neighbor who’s selling puppies that have parvo and if I knew anything about it.”
Paquin says she’s represented people in court who bought puppies from the house in the last few years.
“I’ve had people all the way back to, not this past September, but the September before that who bought chihuahua puppies that were also sick, and they expected all four of them to die,” she said.
To her, it’s time that the puppies get a chance to be safe.
“I am relieved for the puppies,” said Paquin. “I’m glad that they finally are going to get the help that they need and taken care of, and hopefully good homes.”
This is an active investigation and police are asking community members to please avoid the area while they conduct their investigation.
The dogs have been taken to the Horry County Animal Care Center, which is standard procedure for animal seizures, HCPD reported. The dogs are not available for viewing or adoption at this time.
