MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach police say a man left a local hospital Saturday and proceeded to steal two cars and break into several homes that afternoon.

Police reports from the Myrtle Beach Police Department say the offender left the hospital Saturday morning with the IV still in his arm.

According to police reports, two people on San Marks Court reported breaking and entering incidents around 9:30 Saturday morning.

One victim told police she was woken up by a loud banging on her front door. As she approached the front of her home, she met the offender who had forced entry into her home. She reportedly told the man, who was wearing a hospital gown, to get out of her house and the suspect told her that he just needed something to drink. The victim said the offender “uttered something about somebody trying to kill him, and that she could kill him after he gets something to drink.” The police report says the man found a measuring cup in the kitchen,  poured himself some apple juice, then ran out the front door.

Another victim who also lives on San Marks Court called police and told them the man walked into her unlocked home without permission. According to the report, “the victim stated that the offender then grabbed one piece of toast and said ‘thank you’ before he ran out of the back door towards Publix shopping center.”

Another police report says officers were called to the Publix on North Kings Highway in regard to a stolen car. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who said he left his white Chevy van in the back parking lot with the keys in it. A witness told police they watched a male wearing a hospital gown climb into the van and drive away.

Shortly after, officers were called to an accident with injuries where the driver of one of the vehicles left the scene.  The van was found wrecked at Kings Highway and Jimmy D’Angelo Boulevard and the driver, who matched the suspect’s description, was nowhere to be found. The report said the van had front end damage and was missing the front passenger tire.

Meanwhile, residents in Cipriana Park were calling police and reporting a man was entering some homes and trying to get into others.

At 840 Marsala Drive, police reports say the victims were exiting the house when the suspect pushed past them and got into the house. The victims told police they were chasing him around the home and yelling for him to get out until they saw he had a knife in his hand.

At 854 Marsala Drive, the victims reported that the suspect threw a lawn ornament through the back sliding glass door. The police report says they found a half eaten apple and a brown purse on the floor near the front door.  The suspect also reportedly threw something through the glass of the front door and left the house.

At 867 Marsala Drive, a house sitter told police they saw the suspect cut the screen on the bedroom window and proceed to bang on the French doors leading into the living room in an attempt to break the glass and get in the home. The police report says a palm print could be observed on the glass.

At 867 Marsala Drive, the man entered the front bedroom window by cutting the window screen and bending the screen frame to get in the window. The victims told police two lamps and a vase were shattered and they found a silver knife under the bed.

At 849 Marsala Drive, the suspect reportedly cut the screen on the back door and window. One of the residents of the home followed the offender in his Mercedes.

As the resident approached the man, he parked his car, got out, pulled his concealed weapon out and ordered the suspect on the ground.  The man got down on the ground, but then stood up and said “shoot me” to the resident and got in the Mercedes.

The resident was at the side of the car with his gun and the suspect told him to “go ahead and shoot me” before the offender drove off with the car.

According to the reports, crime scene arrived to process the homes that were entered and detectives spoke to all parties involved.
