MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach man has been charged with arson after police say he lit Valentine’s Day cards and gift bags on fire in his boyfriend’s bathtub after they broke up.
Curtis David McCoy, 44, has been charged with arson, second degree after police were called to a structure fire on 5th Avenue North at about 6:40 p.m. on Feb. 18.
When police arrived, they found a fire had been put out in the bathtub of an apartment by the property manager. Nobody was home at the apartment.
Once reached, the tenant told police his former boyfriend had been living with him for the last month and they mutually decided to break up. They agreed the former boyfriend would gather his belongings and be out of the apartment by 4 p.m. that day, according to the report.
The tenant told police McCoy called him and told him he did it, according to the report. When police talked with the McCoy, he said he lit merchandise on fire after their break up and placed them in the bathtub.
McCoy told police he waited for the items to burn out, but the property manager found them still on fire, according to the report. The items were two Valentine’s Day gift bags, two balloons and two Valentine’s Day cards.
