WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) – Authorities say a Winston-Salem man accused of killing his caregiver told police that he decapitated the woman with a guitar.

The Winston-Salem Journal (http://bit.ly/1SyK407 ) reports that a Forsyth County grand jury indicted 60-year-old David D. Thomas on first-degree murder charges Monday in the death of 72-year-old Ruby D. Johnson.

According to a search warrant, Thomas was standing outside of Johnson’s house June 18, when he told responding officers that he had used a guitar to kill his caretaker.

About three weeks before the slaying, Thomas filed a petition with the Forsyth County clerk of court, seeking, for unclear reasons, to have Johnson removed as his guardian.

Thomas is in the Forsyth County Jail with no bond allowed. Online jail records do not indicate if he has hired an attorney.
